For who?
Singing lessons are for everyone! You don’t need to know anything about singing to come to lessons. All you need is open mind and happy attitude! You can also bring a water bottle and a pencil, those are singer’s basic equipments. Bring a song that you enjoy singing to the first lesson. Bring sheet music, preferably a copy for me as well. We’ll do some warm ups and vocal and breathing exercises before we sing anything.
I design the vocal repertoire based on the student’s own wishes. We can sing, for example, folk songs, lieds, arias or musicals. We can also sing pop music or anything you like according to wishes. You can always bring your own song suggestions. During the class, you can record and film material for your own home practice, and you can also write down the instructions and voice exercises.
Lessons include all sheet music. The student can get a print of the sheet music if they want, or I can scan it and send it directly to an email.
And remember, no question is stupid or unnecessary! You can and should ask anything that bothers you. As a teacher, I will try my best to provide you with answers.

The 5-hour package is valid for 4 months and the 10-hour package 6 months. You can discuss the topic further with the teacher.

Lesson with a friend
You can come to lesson with your friend. During the lesson you’ll sing together and separately. I’ll give you both personal and general tips. We can sing duets or you can have different pieces to work with.

Where?
I’m currently teaching at the Laulustudio Laulama in Töölönkatu 50. In special occasions I can teach via Zoom but I prefer that we meet face-to-face.
Canceling a lesson
The student cancels the lesson
If the student cancels the lesson 24 hours before the agreed singing lesson, the lesson will be moved to a new mutually agreed upon time. So if it looks like you won’t be able to make it to the scheduled class, cancel it in time! In cases of illness, we can negotiate on a case-by-case basis what to do.
Basically, a lesson canceled on the same day is considered to have been kept. So remember to cancel your lessons in time!
If you don’t want to use all the hours of the package deal, they will not be refunded. If it seems that you won’t be able to use the hours of the package deal within the deadline, contact the teacher.
The teacher cancels the lesson
If the teacher has to cancel the agreed lesson, she’s obliged to make up for it. In this case, the teacher and the student agree on a new lesson time.
Maija as a teacher
As a teacher, I have been described as calm, positive and safe. My students have experienced the learning environment and atmosphere as open and safe, and I actively strive for that. I want my students to feel safe and accepted in class. During the classes we laugh and sing, rejoice and reflect. There is room for all emotions and wonders!
Singing in general is an interesting form of music because our own body acts as an instrument. In order to be able to sing with a healthy voice, we need to take care of our body and get to know it. I do a lot of physical exercises during the lessons and I lead the student with questions to observe and feel what is happening in their body. This way we can safely reach our own singer’s voice, which is very different and unique to all of us. By working together, we will surely find your voice too!
