Maija Rautasuo’s bright, ringing and powerful soprano voice lends itself equally well to opera, lied and sacred music. As a versatile musician, Rautasuo enjoys performing in a variety of ensembles and exploring music ranging from early music to contemporary repertoire. She has received much praise for her compelling, musically intelligent and refined interpretations of lied. On the opera stage, she has appeared in roles including Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Anna in Nicolai’s Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor.

In 2026, Rautasuo was awarded an Artist Grant by the City of Vantaa.

In spring 2024, Rautasuo made her debut as a soloist with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, singing the role of Mater Gloriosa. In spring 2025, she performed as the second soprano soloist in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, presented by Musiikkitalo Organ associate. She has also appeared in opera productions by Esmo ry and as a soloist with Pirkanpojat in Mozart’s Requiem. In October 2026, Rautasuo will represent Finland as the country’s sole participating singer in the international Aria Borealis Baroque Competition, held at the Helsinki Music Centre from 2–4 October 2026.

Rautasuo has collaborated closely with pianist Pinja Ukkola since 2020. The duo has performed at Finnish festivals and presented their own lied recitals across Finland. In 2026, they will perform in the Oulu region with the support of Svenska kulturfonden, the City of Oulu and the Municipality of Liminka as part of the European Capital of Culture celebrations.

In 2025, Rautasuo co-produced and performed in a freelance production of Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor, presented in Finnish under the title Olemme teihin yhteydessä. The production premiered at the Kålkkåbra Festival in Kokkola in November 2025 and is now available for touring. In early 2026, the dramatized concert Minä uskon—based on Melartin’s travel letters—also premiered. Rautasuo sings with the Helsinki Chamber Choir and regularly performs with other choirs and ensembles.
